4 Amazing Herbs to Grow in your Aquasprout!

Have you heard about the Aquasprouts? Yes, no maybe? Well don't worry, I'm here to make its introduction really simple!

The Aquasprouts is an indoor garden that lets you grow your own food all year round, by adopting a natural process found in ecosystems across the world. It’s what we call Aquaponics.

Even though I’m super passionate about introducing Australian's to Aquaponics, I didn’t bring you here to give you a science lesson! I bought you here to skip and tell you what you can grow in this fancy little "green box".

Let’s start with….

MINT

Mint, the popular herb, has several benefits which include proper digestion and weight loss, relief from nausea, depression, fatigue, and headaches. It is used in the treatment of asthma, memory loss, and skincare problems...Read more

Why grow mint?

Seriously, mint is like a weed. It's fast growing and will take over most of your garden bed if you don't trim and maintain it. You can find fully grown mint at almost every nursery and Bunnings Warehouse in Australia, unless you want to propagate your own seedlings.

I recommend buying mint and clearing the roots from all the soil by hosing it away. This will leave the roots expose. You literally need to place the roots into the clay balls as per the image, and you're done! It will grow and thrive.

CHAMOMILE

Chamomile, also referred to as Babune ka Phal in Hindi, "has a stellar reputation for healing, and with good reason. It is prepared from dried flowers and it brings an oasis of calm and tranquility," says Mr. Amit Anand, Owner of Mingle Tea. The beautiful Chamomile flower is native to Asia, Europe, Australia and North America, and blooms during the early summer months. Read more...

Why grow Chamomile?

Similar to mint, Chamomile is a very low maintenance herb that will grow under shaded conditions and requires very little root stimulation. In conventional soil, Chamomile grows better in dry soil. The Aquasprouts provides the perfect conditions as the roots are settled in clay balls. Clay balls don't hold moisture!

Rosemary is a truly amazing herb that’s a feast for the senses. Not only does it offer year-round garden splendour, but it’s also delightfully fragrant and super flavoursome – just think of how well it complements lamb and roast potatoes! Read more...

Why grow Rosemary?

Rosemary loves the Aquasprouts grow system. Rosemary grows in warmer conditions with consistent lighting. Rosemary enjoys stabile PH and just enough nutrient/ moisture for optimised growth. The Aquasprouts feeding cycle allows Rosemary to uptake what it needs and return what it doesn't.

BASIL

Basil contains antioxidant-rich volatile essential oils, which are considered hydrophobic. This means they don’t dissolve in water and are light and small enough to travel through the air and the pores within our skin. There are so many healthy benefits to Basil. Read more...

Basil is perfect for the Aquasprouts. In fact, basil is one our favourites. Basil generally requires rich soil with high nutrient levels. When you apply these requirements to the Aquasprouts, Basil can up take larger amounts of nutrients, thus growing more aggressively than other herbs.

Some of the best herbs to consider include basil, mint, cilantro, and parsley. These herbs not only thrive in an aquaponic system but also add fresh flavors to your cooking. Additionally, just like tending to your plants, taking care of your skin is crucial. Consider treatments like non-surgical lifting to maintain a youthful appearance. Balancing your health and skincare routines with your gardening hobby can lead to a more holistic and fulfilling lifestyle.
